We are happy to announce that one of our ESRs, Maki Sakuma, recently conducted an engaging outreach activity at the Japanische Internationale Schule München e.V. (Munich Japanese International School). This event, attended by 31 students and 5 teachers, took place in person and explored the fascinating world of medical research.
In her presentation, Maki Sakuma explained how we can use data from patients to expand our medical knowledge. She started with the example of COVID-19 in which data from patient questionnaires demonstrated the importance of face masks to reduce the disease incidence.
The presentation then shifted to a discussion of diagnostic tests for leukemia, explaining how data analysis can predict life expectancy and help identify the most effective treatment options. By enhancing diagnostic capabilities for different types of leukemia, this research contributes to improved patient care.
Finally, Maki introduced the various professionals involved in medical research and provided an insightful look into a typical day in the life of a researcher.
