In her poster, Shubhra Bhattacharya presents her work on characterizing gene expression changes in myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) patients with mutations in the cohesin subunit STAG2. This mutation is associated with a poor prognosis and an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
By analyzing transcriptomic changes at both bulk and single-cell levels in bone marrow samples from MDS patients, the study aims to identify specific genes and pathways deregulated in STAG2 mutant (STAG2mut) samples. Initial findings reveal distinct transcriptional alterations in STAG2mut patients, including downregulation of inflammatory pathways and increased counts of immature cell populations.
Further investigations are ongoing to understand the functional implications of these observations.
